Cardinals begin postseason at the ACC Championships in Atlanta

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's track teams will travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the George C. Griffin Track & Field Facility.
The men's hammer throw will leadoff of meet at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by the men's decathlon 100 meters at 11:30 a.m. The running events will start at 6:03 p.m. with the women's 400-meter hurdles preliminaries followed by the men's.
Saturday's schedule will begin with the men's decathlon at 11:00 a.m. with the women's heptathlon to follow at 12:00 p.m. The field events will start with the men's shot put and women's long jump at 3:00 p.m., while the running events will commence with the women's 100-meter hurdles preliminaries at 5:45 p.m.
The men's high jump, the women's triple jump, and the men's discus will bring in the start of Sunday's schedule at 2:00 p.m. The running events will begin at 5:03 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
Ranked Teams: The men's field will boast one ranked team in the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Rankings, released May 8, with No. 11 Virginia. The women's field includes three ranked teams with No. 14 Florida State No. 19 Miami and No. 21 Notre Dame.
Last Time Out: The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational with a new school record, 12 wins and 23 top three finishes.
Halee Hudson started off the day with a win for the Cardinals. She won the women's javelin with a person best throw of 43.57m/142-11. Emmonnie Henderson won the women's shot put for the second consecutive meet. She finished with a throw of 17.35m/56-11.25.
The Cardinals swept the long jump, Oliver Newport won his third straight long jump of the season. He finished with a season best mark of 7.60m/24-11.25. Bre'Yana Wash recorded her first win of the outdoor season in the long jump. She took top honors with a mark of 6.17m/20-03.00.
Morgan Zacharias won the pole vault for the third time this season. She finished with a personal best mark of 4.13m/13-06.50 for the win. Teague Peck won the 400 meter dash with a personal best time of 47.43. Kaleb Rowe won the triple jump for his second career win. He finished with a personal best mark of 15.30m/50-02.50.
The Cardinals also swept the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Sophomore Abigail Wright won her first career event in the women's 3,000m steeplechase. She finished with a personal best time of 11.01.57. Freshman Julien Magallanes also won his first career event in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase. He finished with a time of 9:24.69.
Louisville had the third sweep of the day in the 5,000 meter run. Caroline Gosser won on the women's side with a season best time of 18:12.83. Calvin Chemoiywo won the men's event with a time of 14:43.37. The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Alexis Gibbons, Kelsey Heyward, Holly Hankenson and Gwen Shaw set a new school record with a time of 3:41.06.
Last Year: Louisville returns two 2016 ACC Champions this season.
Senior Emmonnie Henderson won the Cardinals' first event in the women's shot put with a throw of 16.55m/54-3.75 and was named the Women's ACC Most Valuable Field Performer.
Senior Edwin Kibichiy wrapped up the first day with a win in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.
