Four-run sixth inning spurs Eagles to 6-2 win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team fell 6-2 to host Boston College Saturday afternoon at Shea Softball Field. The teams will meet in the rubber game Sunday at 12 p.m.

Boston College (22-13, 7-3 ACC) opened the scoring in the first inning when Chloe Sharabba singled and moved to second on Tatiana Cortez's fielder's choice. Jordan Chimento walked to load the bases for Allyson Moore's two-out RBI hit.

The Cardinals (22-22, 6-3) evened the score in the fourth after junior Jenna Jordan delivered a one-out single and moved to second on an error. Sophomore Megan Hensley's base hit placed runners on the corners for senior Morgan Meyer who sent a hit through the left side to plate Jordan.

The Eagles countered with a run in the fifth. A leadoff walk was issued to Annie Murphy and she eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Chimento to put BC back on top 2-1.

Louisville had a chance to score in the third when Meyer reached on an error and freshman Caitlin Ferguson followed with a single. Senior Jordan McNary's sacrifice bunt moved the runners and junior Nicole Pufahl's infield single loaded the bases with one out. Senior Maryssa Becker hit into a fielder's choice which saw Meyer out at third. BC pitcher Jessica Dreswick got senior Tiarra Sanabria to groundout to end the scoring threat.

Boston College used five hits to score four runs in the sixth. Lexi DiEmmanuele and Jordan Weed started the inning with back-to-back hits and advanced on Chloe Dubocq's sacrifice bunt. Singles by Taylor Coroneos and Murphy added two more runs. Sharabba's sacrifice bunt scored Coroneos and Cortez followed with an RBI single to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead.

Pufahl added another Louisville run in the top of the seventh when she launched a two-out shot over the left field fence for her team-best sixth home run of the season which brought the score to 6-2.

Hensley (5-5) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and striking out three in 5.1 innings. Pufahl was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI while freshman Caitlin Ferguson also had two hits to help pace the Cards offensively.

Jessica Dreswick (15-6) got the win after allowing two earned runs on eight hits and striking out three in a complete game effort. Sharabba led the Eagles at the plate going 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
