Sixth inning home run lifts BC to 3-1 win over Louisville
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior Jordan McNary went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but a sixth-inning home run by Jordan Chimento lifted host Boston College to a 3-1 win in the rubber game of an ACC series Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Cardinals (22-12, 6-4 ACC) will return to action when the Cardinals play host to in-state rival No. 20 Kentucky Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium.
Â
Chimento's two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth broke open a 1-1 tie after Chloe Sharabba led off the home half of the inning with a single. One out later, Chimento sent a 3-1 pitch over the fence in left centerfield to give Boston College a 3-1 lead.
Â
The teams played through two scoreless innings before the Cardinals got on the scoreboard with a run in the third. Senior Morgan Meyer reached on a two-base error, moved to third on freshman Caitlin Ferguson's groundout and crossed the plate on senior Jordan McNary's base hit.
Â
Boston College answered in the home half of the fourth when Annie Murphy led off with a single and eventually scored on a hit by Jordan Chimento to even the score at 1-1.
Â
Louisville had a chance to push a run across in the sixth when McNary led off the frame with a bunt single and an error on the play sent her second, but she was called on a close play at third for the first out of the inning. Walks issued to junior Nicole Pufahl and senior Maryssa Becker put two runners on, but BC pitcher Jessica Dreswick delivered back-to-back strikeouts to hold the Cardinals at bay.
Â
Becker (17-7) took the loss after giving up three earned runs on six hits and striking out two in six innings.
Â
Dreswick (16-6) picked up the win after surrendering one unearned run on four hits and striking out five in a complete game effort. Chimento led the Eagles offensively with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate and drove in all three runs.
