Meyer has two hits, a run and an RBI in the win
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior Morgan Meyer went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI to help lead the University of Louisville softball team to a 5-3 win over host Boston College in game one of an ACC series Friday evening at BC's Shea Field. The teams will meet in game two of the series Saturday at 12 p.m.
Â
Boston College (21-13, 6-3 ACC) got on the scoreboard in the first when Taylor Coroneos reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the first. Back-to-back sacrifice bunts pushed her to third and she crossed the plate on another Cardinal miscue.
Â
Louisville (22-10, 6-2 ACC) capitalized on two hits and three errors to score five runs in the fourth. Senior Tiarra Sanabria and junior Alison Szydlowski each reached on a fielder's choice. An error sent Sanabria home and Meyer's RBI single plated Szydlowski. Freshman Caitlin Ferguson singled to loaded the bases for senior Jordan McNary who reached on another error which sent Meyer and Ferguson home to give the Cards a 5-1 lead.
Â
The Eagles added a pair of runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Tatiana Cortez led off the home half of the inning with a single and took second on Allyson Moore' one-out base hit. One out later, Jordan Weed delivered a two-run single to pull BC within two runs. Senior Maryssa Becker got Carly Severini to ground out to Ferguson at shortstop to end the game.
Â
Becker (17-6) picked up the win, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and striking out two in seven innings.
Â
Dreswick (14-6) took the loss, allowing five unearned runs on five hits and striking out four in four innings. Weed had a double and two RBIs to lead the Eagles at the plate.
Â
"We're happy to come away with a win against a good team, in some tough conditions, after a very long and tiresome travel day," said head coach Sandy Pearsall. "Certainly, we have to be better defensively. I'd like to see us come out a little more aggressively at the plate tomorrow. By and large, Maryssa did a nice job against a good-hitting team." Â
