Trevor Troutman and Dolly Nyemah lead the Cardinals on the first day
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams kicked off the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on Friday afternoon with the men's and women's hammer events. Trevor Troutman led the men with a win in the event while Dolly Nyemah led the women with a second place finish.
"Today was an outstanding start to this weekend's competition," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Dolly and Cyerra were able to finish second and third in the women's hammer and clearly have bigger throws to come in the next few weeks. Trevor Troutman picked up the win in men's hammer at just over 207 feet. Both Darrius and Mitchell were able improve on their season best throws as well. This event is beginning to solidify for us as we approach the championship segment of our season in two weeks."
Troutman won the event with a personal best mark of 63.14m/207-2. Nyemah finished second with a throw of 57.47m/188-6.
Cyerra Cassell finished third for the women with a throw of 55.23m/181-2. Darrius Lopez finished fifth with a season best throw of 58.94m/193-4.
Freshman Mitchell Kessler finished eighth with a personal best throw of 53.04m/174. Spencer Harris threw a personal best of 49.22m/161-06 for ninth place.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday as they host a full day of events in the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational. The day opens with the men's javelin at 9:00 a.m. in Cardinal Park.
