Cardinals wrap up regular season road game at Virginia
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville lacrosse team travels to take on ACC foe and 15th-ranked Virginia on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
The Cardinals (10-5, 2-3) are coming off a hard-fought, 15-11 loss to No. 2 North Carolina over the weekend. Senior Hannah Koloski and sophomore Meghan Siverson both tallied a hat-trick, while juniors Jillian Balog and Taylor Webster recorded two goals apiece. Junior goalkeeper Brittany Read recorded 14 saves in the loss.
Koloski (56g, 2a), who leads the nation in free-position goals per game (1.73), shots on goal per game (6.53), and goals, also leads Louisville with 58 points. Koloski ranks second in the nation in shots per game with 8.73 and sixth in goals per game with 3.73, as well. Siverson has 47 goals and six assists on the season for 53 points. She is, also, second in the nation in shots on goal per game (6.20), fifth in shots per game (8.00), and 13th in free-position goals per game (1.07). Freshman Ashley Lynch leads the team with 17 assists on the year. Read carries a 9.43 goals-against average, a .509 save percentage, and 146 saves into the matchup. Read ranks third and eighth in the nation in saves and save percentage, respectively.
The Cavaliers (8-7, 2-3) were victorious by a score of 16-13 in their midweek matchup against Navy. Maggie Jackson recorded a career-high six goals and one assists in the win, while fellow sophomore Avery Shoemaker scored five goals and one assists in the win. Senior Kelly Reese scored two goals while assisting on two more. Junior keeper Rachel Vander Kolk stopped 12 shots in the victory.
Jackson leads Virginia with 30 goals and 24 assists for 54 points, while Reese has 35 goals and nine assists for 44 points. Senior Besser Dyson has a balanced attack of 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 points. Vander Kolk carries an 11.55 goals-against average, a .416 save percentage, and 121 saves into Saturdays game.
Virginia leads the all-time series 2-0, including last season's close victory at UofL Lacrosse Stadium, 10-9.
