Hannah Koloski led the Cardinals with four goals
BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team fell 14-11 at Boston College on Saturday afternoon despite a strong second half comeback. Senior Hannah Koloski led the Cardinals (8-3, 1-2) with four goals.
"Although I am proud of our second half effort, we cannot put ourselves at such a deficit and expect to win," said head coach Kellie Young. "This has to be an eye opener for our players about personal preparation for success. Today's performance was not the Louisville way."
Boston College started the game with a 9-0 run in the first 20 minutes. The Cardinals got on the board in the ninth minute with a free position goal from Meghan Siverson, which sparked a 3-0 Louisville run. Three minutes later, Madison Hoover found Allison Ferrara to cut the lead to 9-2. Less than a minute later Koloski scored, capping the run and cutting the deficit to 9-3.
The Eagles scored on the next possession to push the lead to 10-3. Louisville closed out the half with a 2-0 run with goals by Siverson and Koloski, cutting the lead to 10-5 at the half.
The Cardinals continued the momentum into the second half. Koloski scored her third goal of the game to start the half at 27:47. Boston College scored two goals to push the lead to 12-6 with 24 minutes left in the half.
Louisville responded with a 3-0 run to get within three goals with 15 minutes remaining. Siverson scored off a free position shot then Taylor Webster found the back of the net. McKayla Conti capped the run with a free position shot, cutting the lead to 12-9.
Boston College had an answer to the Cardinals' run, scoring two straight goals. The Eagles held a 14-9 lead with 10:53 left to play. Louisville followed with a 2-0 run. Conti found Jillian Balog and then Koloski scored on a free position goal to cut the lead to 14-11. Despite a spirited comeback the Cardinals could not find the back of the net in the final minutes, falling 14-11.
Boston College finished with a 27-26 shot advantage for the game but the Cardinals outshot Boston College 17-9 in the second half. Louisville held a 15-14 ground ball advantage while Boston College held a 17-10 advantage at the draw.
Brittany Read finished with 10 saves while Boston College also had 10 saves, including six in the second half. Siverson finished with three goals in a balanced offensive attack. Conti and Hoover each finished with one assist.
On the defensive end, Read and Hoover led the Cards with three ground balls while Siverson and Balog finished with two caused turnovers.
Louisville will be back in action on Tuesday, March 21 as they host Duquesne at the UofL Lacrosse field at noon.
