University of Louisville volleyball players Tess Clark and Janelle Jenkins have been named to the All-ACC Academic Volleyball team.
Thirty-five student-athletes from 14 institutions are represented on this year's All-ACC Academic team, led by Georgia Tech, Florida State and Pittsburgh with four honorees each. Duke, North Carolina and NC State have three student-athletes recognized apiece, while Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest each have two. Clemson and Virginia each have one honoree.
Georgia Tech senior outside hitter Teegan Van Gunst was named the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the All-ACC Academic Volleyball team.Â
Van Gunst, a mechanical engineering major from Fayetteville, Georgia, is a three-time All-ACC Academic team member and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree, earning first team recognition this past season. Adding to her accolades, Van Gunst is a two-time AVCA All-Region All-American and garnered AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors in 2016. The Yellow Jacket has also been an All-ACC First Team member, twice.
In addition to Van Gunst, All-ACC Academic team members who also earned All-ACC honors this past season include Clemson's Leah Perri, ACC Defensive Player of the Year Sasha Karelov from Duke and teammate Cindy Marina, Florida State's Katie Horton, Melanie Keil and Milica Kubura, Louisville's Tess Clark, Miami's Olga Strantzali, North Carolina's Abigail Curry and ACC Player of the Year Taylor Leath, NC State's Julia Brown, Notre Dame's Jemma Yeadon, Pittsburgh's Jenna Potts, Mariah Bell, Stephanie Williams and ACC Setter of the Year Kamalani Akeo, Virginia Tech's Lindsey Owens and Wake Forest's Caroline Rassenfoss.Â
There are 15 multi-year student-athletes on the team this season.Â
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
