Cards win 6-1 over Panthers
The University of Louisville women's tennis team took the doubles point and five of the singles matches to beat ACC-rival Pittsburgh team 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"That was a good win against a good team. They beat us last year up at their place," said Mark Beckham, UofL head coach. "Being able to beat them in 6-1 fashion shows that we are a different team this year. Thing about it is we played solidly, yet I still see them playing better during the week. We are stilll capable of playing better in some spots but we are winning and getting good wins. I need to make sure I am keeping them in check because while we are winning matches we are not playing our best tennis. So we are a pretty good team now but we need to play our best every time out."Â
Cardinals doubles team of Olivia Boesing and Tiffany Huber started the afternoon with the victory over Gabriela Rezende and Natsumi Okamoto 6-2 at No. 3. Jessie Paul and Ariana Rodriguez overtook Audrey Ann Blakely and Clara Lucas 6-2 to secure the doubles point for Louisville. On court one, Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg were up 5-3 when their match was halted due to the point being clinched.
Â
At the No. 1 spot in the singles competition, Aleksandra Mally outlasted Audrey Ann Blakely 6-4, 6-0. At the No. 3 spot, Abbie Pahz defeated Gabriela Rezende 6-1, 6-3. In the No. 6 spot, Louisville's Ariana Rodriguez toppled Natsumi Okamoto 6-2. 6-4. Tiffany Huber was victorious over Callie Frey 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot. At No. 2, Mariana Humberg beat Amber Washington, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). Finally, No. 5 Olivia Boesing fell to Clara Lucas in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 5-7 to give Pittsburgh their only point of the afternoon.
