Raven Grant and Bre'Yana Wash set new records on Saturday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Louisville track and field teams finished with four top five finishes and two new school records on the final day of the Music City Challenge on Saturday. Raven Grant set a new school record in the 400 meters while Bre'Yana Wash tied the school record in the long jump.
"Raven Grant did an outstanding job of closing again today," said head coach Dale Cowper. "She was able to break Heather's indoor school record from 2009 and it's exciting to see her continue making progress as the ACC Championships approach at the end of the month. I was also impressed with Bre'Yana in long jump. She continues jumping further and further every week and today she was able to tie the indoor long jump record that freshman Alexis Gibbons set early this season."
Grant followed up her win in the 200 meters yesterday by setting a school record in the 400 meters. She finished eighth with a personal best time of 54.94. She broke Heather Trimiew's time of 55.18 set at the 2009 Big East Indoor Championships. Wash finished fourth in the long jump with a personal best mark of 6.26m/20-6 ½. She tied teammate Alexis Gibbons mark set earlier this season.
Calvin Chemoiywo finished third in the 3000 meter run. He finished with a personal best time of 8:19.05. Emmonnie Henderson finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 16.40m/53-9 ¾.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team rounded out the top finishes of the day. Andrew Nsuk, Anthony Crandon, Carlos Coleman and Martice Moore finished fifth with a time of 3:13.89.
"Within the men's squad we are watching a group of six young men that can each play a significant role within the mile relay," said Cowper. "It will be an interesting couple of weeks as we see which ones emerge as the frontrunners."
The Cardinals will have next weekend off as they prepare for the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-25. Notre Dame will host the championship.
