LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The No. 5 Louisville men's soccer team will play its regular season home finale against NC State on Saturday at 7 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Prior to the match, the Cardinals will honor seniors Walker Andriot, Sawyer Edwards, Tim Kubel, Joey Kunkel, Mohamed Thiaw and Campbell Weyland during an on-field ceremony at approximately 6:45 p.m. Saturday's match will be televised on ACC Network Extra, while live stats can be accessed at GoCards.com.Â
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville is 10-1-3 overall following Tuesday's 1-0 overtime win at Charlotte and 4-1-1 in the ACC after last Friday's scoreless draw with No. 4 North Carolina. Louisville, ranked fifth in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 and ninth in the Soccer America Top 25, is riding a nine-match unbeaten streak. Junior Tate Schmitt and senior Mohamed Thiaw lead the Cardinals with six goals each this season, while senior Tim Kubel has five goals. Junior Adam Wilson has a team-leading six assists, while Kubel has four assists on the season.
ABOUT THE WOLFPACK
NC State, riding a five-match unbeaten streak, enters the weekend at 7-4-3 overall following a 2-1 win over UNC Wilmington on Tuesday and 2-3-1 in the ACC after a scoreless draw with Virginia last Friday. Last season, the Wolfpack had a 5-12-0 record overall and was just 1-7-0 in the ACC.

Saturday's match will be the sixth meeting all-time between the Cardinals and Wolfpack with the series record even at 2-2-1 dating back to the first match in 1997. The Cardinals enter the weekend ranked in the top 40 in the NCAA in four different team statistical categories. Louisville is third in the nation in shutout percentage (0.643), 10th in team goals against average (0.543), 33rd in total goals (25) and 38th in total points (70). The Cardinals lead the ACC in both shutout percentage and team goals against average. Individually, Mohamed Thiaw is ranked 21st in the nation and third in the ACC with his three game-winning goals.Â
KUBEL NAMED FINALIST FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD
Tim Kubel was named Oct. 12 among 10 finalists for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate men's soccer. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately at www.seniorCLASSaward.com to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through November 20. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships later this fall.
A native of Stuttgart, Germany, Kubel has started 74 matches in his four years at Louisville, including 11 this season for the No. 5 Cardinals. Kubel has accumulated 20 career goals and 23 assists overall, including five goals and four assists in 2017. In the classroom, Kubel has a 3.688 cumulative GPA while majoring in finance with a minor in marketing.
During his junior season in 2016, Kubel was an NSCAA Second Team All-America selection and was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist after scoring three goals and matching a school record with 11 assists while starting all 22 matches at right back. He was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI First Team, All-ACC First Team, ACC Championship All-Tournament Team and NSCAA All-South Region First Team. In 2015, he earned All-ACC First Team honors, while in 2014, Kubel was named ACC Freshman of the Year, All-ACC Second Team and NSCAA All-South Region First Team.
