Women's Soccer Holds Pitt Scoreless in 3-0 Win on Friday Night

Three different Cardinals score in the win
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three different Cardinals scored goals in a total team effort on Senior Night, lifting Louisville to a 3-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers on Friday evening. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 9-6-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the ACC. Pitt falls to 3-9-4 on the year and 0-6-1 in ACC play.
"I love that we got two goals early" said head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "We were able to set the tone early and dictate the rest of the match."
The Cardinals gained command of the match early as Brooklyn Rivers defeated her defender in a one-on-one situation, scoring Louisville's first goal of the night less than three minutes into the first half.
With momentum from their early 1-0 lead, the Louisville offense continued to roll as the Cardinals earned three consecutive corner kicks. The Cardinals were able to capitalize on their offensive intensity in the 10th minute when freshman Taylor Kerwin scored her first career goal, rolling the ball past the keeper to increase Louisville's lead to 2-0.
Pitt's best opportunity of the half came in the 39th minute from a shot by Juelle Love, but Gabby Kouzelos made a crucial save, rendering the Panthers scoreless through the first half.
Louisville finished the half with a 7-1 shot advantage and a 4-1 corner kick advantage. Kouzelos and Pitt's Katelyn McEachern each earned one save apiece.
Continuing their offensive dominance into the second half, the Cardinals extended their lead to 3-0 in the 49th minute as Gabrielle Vincent's shot found the back of the net off of a free kick by Rivers.
Through the remainder of the match, Louisville's steadfast defensive efforts held Pitt to just one shot, preventing the Panthers from getting on the board and closing out a 3-0 shutout victory on Senior Night.
The Cardinals edged the Panthers 14-2 in shots and 9-2 in corners. Kouzelos and McEachern both recorded one save on the evening.
Up next, the Cardinals welcome No. 22 Wake Forest to Lynn Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m for their final home match of the regular season.
