Cardinals play to a scoreless tie in the home finale
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team played their final regular season game at Lynn Stadium Thursday night, earning a scoreless draw with No. 15 Wake Forest in double overtime.

"I wouldn't use the word 'frustrated,' but I think we deserved to win tonight," said head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "We created enough chances. The game turned, which I thought was in our favor, and I thought it was more in our favor through the overtimes."Â

The first half saw the Cardinals looking for their offensive break, accumulating five shots in the first half alone. In the 13th minute, Brooklynn Rivers had first opportunity for Louisville with a shot to the top of the goal which was saved by the goalkeeper.

In the 36th minute and the 38th minute, Emina Ekic and Alison Price had two chance to put the Cards ahead but the Wake Forest keeper was able to made back-to-back saves for a 0-0 tie at the break.Â

The Cards created more chances for themselves in the second half, but could not find a way to capitalize on them. In the 85th minute Rivers had the best shot of the half, which hit the crossbar and bounced away from the goal.

The Cardinals finished the second half with five shots, while Gabby Kouzelos notched two more saves for a total of four heading into the overtime period. Louisville outshot Wake Forest 10-7 in regulation.

In the first overtime period, the Cardinals found an opportunity in the final two minutes. Rivers headed the ball off a free kick which bounced just short of the goal. The Cards had two straight corner kicks but could not convert on the set pieces, forcing the final overtime period. Â

In the final overtime, Louisville had three chances in the span of 30 seconds, first a shot by Ekic hit the crossbar. Allison Whitfield collected the rebound for a shot that was saved at the goal line by a Wake Forest defender. Â Then Price collected the rebound and sent the shot over the goal.

Gabby Kouzelos ended the night with four saves on eight shots, with no goals allowed. Wake Forest goalkeeper Lindsay Preston finished the night with eight saves on 14 shots, with no goals allowed.

The Cardinals will wrap up the season with two straight road games.  They travel to North Carolina on Sunday for a 10:00 a.m. match. Â
