Women's Soccer Travels to No. 5 North Carolina on Sunday

Cardinals Face the Tar Heels for 10 a.m. match on Sunday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In the first of a two game road stretch, the University of Louisville women's soccer team will travel to No. 5 North Carolina for a 10 a.m. match at KokaBooth Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Following their scoreless draw with No. 15 Wake Forest, the Cardinals hold a record of 9-6-1 overall and are 3-4-1 in ACC play.
Freshman midfielder Emina Ekic is the Cardinals' leading scorer through 15 matches, totaling 17 points with seven goals and three assists. The sophomore duo of Brooklynn Rivers and Allison Whitfield has also been integral to the Louisville offense, each tallying four goals and two assists apiece.
In goal, Gabby Kouzelos has earned 45 saves and holds a goals against average of 1.07. With the Cardinals' shutout of Wake Forest, the redshirt freshman recorded her fifth shutout of the season.
Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 18th season with the Cardinals. She has led Louisville to four NCAA tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
After going 4-2 in the non-conference portion of its schedule, the Tar Heels have started Atlantic Coast Conference play with eight consecutive wins. UNC wrapped up a four-match ACC road trip with a 4-0 win at Virginia Tech Thursday. The match marked the 11th road game of the regular season and the final road contest. UNC has played only three home games so far (Duke, Clemson, Syracuse). The Tar Heels own an 12-2 record overall and an 8-0 record in the ACC.
Dorain Bailey leads the Tar Heels with 20 points (6g, 8a). Alessia Russo leads the team with eight goals and has 17 points on the year. Joanna Boyles also has 17 points with six goals and five assists. Samanth Leshnak leads North Carolina in goal with a 0.56 goals against average and 34 saves. She owns a 12-2-0 record on the year.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the second meeting between the two teams. In the first meeting in October of 2015, the Cardinals defeated the top ranked Tar Heels 2-1 in overtime.
