Volleyball Hosts Clemson and Georgia Tech

UofL returns to Cardinal Arena with a four-match winning streak.
Scouting Report
Following a successful road swing through Virginia, the University of Louisville volleyball team returns to Cardinal Arena for a pair of matchups that has the Cards facing Clemson on Friday at 7 p.m. and then hosting Georgia Tech at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The match with GT will be televised on Fox Sports South.
The Cardinals (11-5, 5-1 ACC) are on a bit of a roll with four straight conference wins leading into the weekend. Amanda Green had 13 kills and three blocks to lead the UofL to a 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 win over Virginia Tech on Friday night in Blacksburg, Va. In the first set, UofL was rocked by Tech's .406 hitting as the Hokies popped out to a 4-0 lead. The Cards could not string together any runs to overcome that lead. Â UofL was hampered by .059 hitting and only had a single block. Â But momentum swang back to the Cardinals who rolled the Hokies in the ensuing three sets. Â The Cards hit .221 with 15 blocks and seven aces. Jasmine Bennet had 10 blocks with eight kills. Melanie McHenry had 13 kills and 14 digs. Â Wilma Rivera had 39 assists and nine digs. Â
Maggie DeJong had 10 kills, hit .562 with five blocks to lead the Cards to a 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17 win over Virginia on Sunday afternoon in Charlottesville.
The Cards hit .270 with 10 blocks and four aces. Â The Cavaliers hit .192 and hindered their efforts with 13 service errors. UofL had offensive help from Melanie McHenry's 12 kills and Amanda Green's 11. Wilma Rivera had 45 assists and 16 assists.Â
Clemson
Clemson has struggled at the open of ACC play, including two 3-0 losses to Syracuse and Boston College last weekend. First year head coach Michaela Franklin's Tigers have amassed a 5-13 overall record and a 0-6 conference record. Louisville leads the all-time series between the two schools 6-0, including a 3-0 victory in Clemson, S.C. last year. Sophomore outside hitter Kaylin Korte leads the Tigers with 197 kills and ranks second on the team with 143 digs. Freshman libero Madi Howell leads Clemson on the defensive side with 221 digs and 13 service aces.Â

Georgia Tech
Fourth year head coach Michelle Collier's Yellow Jackets have struggled as of late going 2-4 to open up ACC play. Georgia Tech dropped games to Boston College and Syracuse this weekend with scores of 3-1 and 3-0, respectively. The Yellow Jackets opened the season with a strong win over no. 10 Michigan State at the Hyatt Regency Invitational, but have only been able to tally a 7-10 overall record. Georgia Tech leads the all-time series with Louisville at 21-5, including a 3-1 victory last year in Atlanta. Fun Fact: Coach Michelle Collier of Georgia Tech played for South Florida and helped the Bulls win a Conference USA Tournament Title from the Regular Season Champion Cardinals in 2002. The Bulls swept the Cards 30-27, 30-24, 30-20.Â

McHenry Named ACC Player of the Week
Melanie McHenry and the Cardinals defeated No. 21 Florida State and Miami in straight sets at home over the weekend. The sophomore outside hitter from Speedway, Indiana, recorded a match-high 18 kills with a .385 hitting percentage and 11 digs against the Seminoles. McHenry recorded 33 total kills, a .333 hitting percentage, 20 digs and three blocks.
Rivera, McHenry, Sauer are Named All UNLV Challenge
University of Louisville's setter Wilma Rivera was named the UNLV Challenge Most Valuable Player. She had 111 assists, four aces and four digs as well as four blocks, helping the Cards hit .307 as a team. Â Melanie McHenry led the offense with 50 points over the last three matches, including 42 kills, three aces and eight blocks. Molly Sauer registered 40 digs and four aces.
