Senior Daniel Johnson scores sixth career goal as Louisville extends unbeaten streak to six
NEWTON, Mass. - Senior Daniel Johnson scored his first goal of the season as the No. 9 Louisville men's soccer team played to a 1-1 road draw against Boston College on Friday night at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
Johnson delivered his sixth career goal in the 65th minute to give the Cardinals (7-1-2, 3-0-1 ACC) an advantage before the host Eagles (5-3-1, 1-2-1 ACC) connected for the equalizer in the 86th minute. Neither side found the match-winner in the 20 minutes of overtime as Louisville extended its unbeaten streak to six games, the longest such stretch since a nine-game unbeaten streak in 2013.
"It was a battle that we had won and missed on the opportunity to close it out," said Cardinals head coach Ken Lolla. "Just the same, I am proud of our effort and ability to grind out a point on the road. I believe it will be a valuable point come the end of the season."
After the teams played a scoreless opening half, Louisville broke through at 64:46 when Johnson scored from the top of the box for the 1-0 advantage. Junior Geoffrey Dee was credited with the assist, his second of the season.
As Louisville tried to salt away the victory, Boston College evened the score at 1-1 when Zeiko Lewis finished his third goal of the season from the front of the goal at the 85:44 mark in the match. Simon Enstrom was credited with the assist for the Eagles.
The Cardinals finished the match with a 13-11 advantage in shots, including a 6-5 edge in attempts on-goal. BC finished with a 6-5 advantage in corner kick chances.
Friday's contest marked the third time in as many matches all-time between Louisville and Boston College the teams played into overtime. The Cardinals won the first ever meeting 3-2 in overtime in 2014 and added a 2-1 triumph in double overtime last season.
Up next, No. 9 Louisville returns home for the first of three straight matches at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium when Belmont visits for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday at 7 p.m., ET.
