
Baseball Notebook: Scrimmages Resume Thursday Afternoon

Koch earns first MLB win; Patterson Stadium ranked 14th in D1Baseball List of top college ballparks
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Week three of fall workouts for the University of Louisville baseball team will conclude with three open scrimmages at Jim Patterson Stadium starting Thursday at 3:45 p.m., ET. The scrimmage schedule continues Friday at 3 p.m., ET, while the finale is set for Saturday at noon. Batting practice will begin approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes prior to first pitch each day.
WEEK TWO SCRIMMAGE HIGHLIGHTS
The second of week of fall ball for the Cardinals was capped by a trio of scrimmages last weekend Jim Patterson Stadium. In Friday's opener, Logan Taylor was 2-for-2 with a double and two walks, Tyler Fitzgerald finished 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice and Devin Mann added an RBI and a stolen base. On the mound, lefty Rabon Martin had three strikeouts and did not allow a hit or a run in three innings, righthander Phillip Sanderson finished with four strikeouts in scoreless innings and righty Jake Sparger added four strikeouts in two dominant innings.
On Saturday, Logan Wyatt launched a three-run homer and Mann added a two-run bomb to pace the offense, while righthander Shane Hummel worked three shutout innings. Righty Hunter Sullivan added two innings of scoreless relief and righty Matt McCarty chipped in with two strikeouts in two shutout innings.
In Sunday's weekend finale, Brendan McKay singled, walked twice and scored three runs to lead the offense, while Colby Fitch singled, had two walks, two stolen bases and scored twice. Mann capped his strong weekend at the plate with two doubles and two runs scored, while Drew Ellis added two doubles and Zeke Pinkham was 2-for-2 with a walk.
KOCH EARNS FIRST MLB WIN IN RELIEF OUTING FOR DIAMONDBACKS
Just nine days after making his Major League Baseball debut and five days after earning his first big league save, Louisville baseball alumnus and righthanded pitcher Matt Koch registered his first career win with one inning of perfect relief in Arizona's walk-off win against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sept. 18. In three relief appearances for the Diamondbacks since his September promotion, Koch has four strikeouts and allowed just two hits without surrendering a run in 6.0 innings of work. JIM PATTERSON STADIUM RANKED 14TH IN D1BASEBALL LIST OF TOP COLLEGE BALLPARKS
D1Baseball.com released its list of the top 25 college ballparks in the nation on Tuesday and Louisville's Jim Patterson Stadium landed at No. 14 on the list. The rankings were compiled by polling college baseball coaches and sports information directors from around the nation with a total of 163 (110 coaches, 62 SIDs) casting votes. Comments from voters on Patterson Stadium highlighted the free attendance for regular season games, the strong fan support and the "amazing atmosphere" at the ballpark.
