
Women's Soccer Opens ACC Play at Pittsburgh on Saturday

Cards travel to Pittsburgh for the second road game of the year
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's soccer team will open up league play this weekend at Pittsburgh. Â After a seven game home stand, the Cardinals will play just their second road game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE CARDINALSÂ
 Louisville enters the match with an overall record of 5-2-1 with a 2-1 overtime win over Belmont and 1-0 double overtime loss to Ball State on Sunday and Friday night respectively.  Â

Brooklynn Rivers leads the Cardinals with 10 points, with four goals and two assists. Rivers led the Cardinals with two goals in their 2-1 over Belmont Sunday night. Â Gabrielle Vincent enters the game second on the team in points with three goals and two assists, while Sarah Feola also has two goals and two assists on the year.Â

Taylor Bucklin leads the Cardinals in goal with a 5-2-1 record and three shutouts on the season. Â She has a 0.86 goals against average, allowing only seven goals. Â She also has 11 saves on the year. Â Â Â Â Â
Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 17th season with the Cardinals. She has guided Louisville to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.
SCOUTING PITTSBURGH
Pitt enters the game with an overall record of 1-6-1, coming off a 2-1 double overtime loss against Kent State. Freshman forward Alex Wright comes into the game leading the Panthers with three goals on the season. Freshman forward Christiana Davey, junior defender Niki Hopkins, and sophomore defender Alli Higgs have all added a goal apiece.Â
Senior goalkeeper Taylor Francis has a 2.01 goals against average and 47 saves for the Panthers on season. Â Â Â
Greg Miller is in his fourth season at Pitt, where he guided the Panthers to their first ACC wins in 2015. He also brought in the highest rated recr.uiting class in school history in 2014 Before his stint with the Panthers, he was an assistant coach at Ohio State.Â

Louisville leads the all-time series with a 4-2-0 record over Pittsburgh. The Panthers beat the Cardinals in their meeting last season in Louisville with a score of 1-0. Â Â

   •The Cardinals have scored four goals in straight three matches this season.  The only time in school history the Cardinals have scored four or more goals in three consecutive games in a season was in 1986.  Louisville defeated Morehead State 5-0 on Oct. 8 , then defeated Morehead State again 4-1 on Oct. 10, and defeated Kentucky 7-0 on Oct. 11.Â

   • This season the Cardinal roster has five international players.  Returners Inger Katrine Bjerke is from Norway while Tina Marolt is from Slovenia.  Joining the Cardinals this season is Sarah Feola from Quebec, Canada, Mhairi Fyfe from Livingston, Scotland, and Kathellen Sousa-Feitoza from Sao Vicente, Brazil.Â
   • Freshman Allison Whitfield has followed in her sister Casey's footsteps, playing at Louisville.  She also wears the number 23, same as Casey.  The also are similar in both play, Casey was one of the top play makers for the Cardinals and so far, Allison has lived up to thos expectations. Â
   • The Cardinals have two freshmen with national team experience this season.  Freshmen Sarah Feola and Gabrielle Kouzelos have played this summer with their national teams.
