Cardinals open 2016 schedule on Friday at 7:30 p.m., ET at Lynn Stadium against Butler
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With the 2016 season slated to open on Friday night, the University of Louisville men's soccer team provided a preview during Monday's media day at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Head coach Ken Lolla, graduate student and goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland, junior defender Tim Kubel and senior defender Jerry Ramirez met with reporters in advance of Friday's season-opener against Butler, set for 7:30 p.m., ET at Lynn Stadium. Monday's schedule began with a morning training session and was followed by the official team photo. The news conferences with the players and coaches concluded the team activities.
Louisville returns eight players with 13 or more starts from last year's team, including the top three goal scorers in sophomore Tate Schmitt (seven goals), senior Daniel Johnson (five goals) and Kubel (five goals). Schmitt was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team, while Kubel (First Team) and Johnson (Second Team) were tabbed All-ACC selections last season. The Cardinals were 7-9-3 overall last season and finished tied for fifth in the ACC Atlantic with a 1-4-3 conference mark.
Friday's opener against Butler is the first of back-to-back home matches for the Cardinals, who will also host Quinnipiac on Monday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m., at Lynn Stadium. All 10 of Louisville's home matches this season are slated for television coverage on ACC Network Extra, available on WatchESPN.
