Cardinals Shutout Indiana State 4-0 in Home Opener

Kaela Dickerman led the Cardinals with two goals against the Sycamores
LOUISVILLE, KY. – Kaela Dickerman scored two goals to lead the Cardinals to a 4-0 win over Indiana State on Sunday afternoon at Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals remain undefeated, improving to 1-0-1 on the year.
Louisville controlled possession the majority of the game. The Cardinals were able to strike first in the 12th minute when freshman Sarah Feola crossed the ball into the box and a streaking Dickerman headed the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals continued to challenge the Sycamores' goalkeeper. The struck again in the 34th minute when freshman Allison Whitfield sent a corner kick into the box and freshman Niamh Nelson headed the ball into the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Cardinal defense held the Sycamores without a shot in the first half. Louisville finished the half with a 12-0 shot advantage and a 4-0 corner kick advantage. Indiana State keeper Brittany San Roman finished with five saves. Taylor Bucklin was never tested.
Louisville continued to control possession most of the second half. Three minutes into the half, freshman Brooklynn Rivers sent a cross into the box and Dickerman sent the shot just outside the keeper's hands for the 3-0 lead.
In the 73rd minute, Whitfield sent a cross inside the box and Bridget Stewart went airborne and headed the ball just over the keeper's head for a 4-0 lead. Louisville finished the game with a 21-2 shot advantage and a 6-1 corner kick advantage.
Victoria Gabor finished with one save for the Cardinals while Indiana State finished with nine saves. Bucklin got the win for the Cardinals and owns a 1-0-1 record.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday, Aug. 26 as they host UAB at 5:30 p.m. as part of a double header with the men.
