Lolla delivers “State of the Team” address; Jamil Shalash honored as Alumnus of the Year
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer program hosted its fourth annual Kickoff Banquet on Sunday night at the PNC Club inside Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. A crowd of more than 200 joined the Cardinals as they officially welcomed a new season on the pitch.
The event opened with player introductions for the 2016 Cardinals and was followed by Skype interviews with UofL alumni Austin Berry and Kenney Walker, who currently play for Cincinnati FC in the USL. Fans were then entertained by a Q&A session with four members of this year's Louisville men's soccer team – Stefan Cleveland, Daniel Johnson, Tim Kubel and Jerry Ramirez.
Jamil Shalash was then honored as the 2016 UofL Men's Soccer Alumnus of the Year. Shalash played for the Cardinals from 1983-86 and is the school record holder for single season goals (15 in 1986), career goals (48) and career points (106).
The evening concluded with head coach Ken Lolla's annual "State of the Team" address. The banquet also featured numerous silent auctions as well as photo and autograph opportunities with Louisville players and coaches.
Up next, the Cardinals will conclude their exhibition slate at UAB on Saturday at 6 p.m., ET before opening the 2016 regular season schedule at home against Butler on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m., at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
