Free clinic celebrates the gifts of participants with special needs while promoting physical, mental and social development through soccer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer program and head coach Ken Lolla hosted the sixth annual "Kickin' it with JT and Friends" soccer clinic last Saturday at Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex and this year's event provided another memorable experience for everyone in attendance.
The free clinic celebrated the gifts of participants with special needs while promoting physical, mental and social development through the vehicle of soccer and proved to be another fun event with endless smiles and joy for all involved. The event is named for and inspired by JT, a special young man, an avid soccer camp participant and the nephew of Coach Lolla.
"The event is about celebrating the talents and the special qualities of special people," said Lolla during this year's event. "We have a lot of volunteers that gather on this day simply to celebrate the special needs kids."Â
The clinic was directed by the Louisville men's soccer coaching staff along with players from the team and more than 100 volunteers. The clinic included the teaching of fundamentals and drills but also expanded to creative activities tailored to the participants. A highlight for participants was traveling down the "celebration tunnel" and having their name announced over the loud speaker by celebrity guest emcee Howie Lindsey.
