Worrell Named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American

Exercise Science major just made the U.S. Olympic Team
University of Louisville swimmer Kelsi Worrell was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Women's At-Large Team for the 2015-16 season.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

Nearly 75 percent (34) of the 46 members of the 2016 Women's At-Large Team posted at least a 3.90 G.P.A., including a  26 student-athletes with spotless 4.0 G.P.A. The 15 members of the first-team registered an average G.P.A. of 3.95, with more than half (eight) logging a 4.0 G.P.A.

After being named to second team in the 2014-15 season, Worrell, an exercise science major, pushed herself in the pool, and in the classroom to be named a first team Academic All-American. She is the only swimmer in school history to be named a CoSIDA First Team All-American for swimming.

The senior is has finished up her eligibility as a Cardinal, and is a four-time NCAA National Champion, and holds the American and NCAA record in the 100-fly with a time of 49.81.

She is currently competing in the Olympic trials, where she swam the second fastest time of the year in the world for the 100-fly which qualified her for the Olympics, making her the first American swimmer from the University of Louisville, and the third American Cardinal ever to qualify for the Olympics.
