Drew Harrington, Kade McClure and Brendan McKay among players under consideration for national award

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior lefthander Drew Harrington, sophomore righthander Kade McClure and sophomore lefty Brendan McKay were named Wednesday to the initial watch list for the 2016 National Pitcher of the Year Award, presented by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame. The award will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock as part of the annual Night of Champions event.
 Kade McClureIn his first season in the weekend pitching rotation, Harrington has produced an 8-1 record with a 1.40 ERA (21st nationally) and 46 strikeouts in nine starts and 58.0 innings. Tied for the NCAA lead in wins, the native of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, has won seven straight starts while not allowing a run in five of his nine outings.
McClure has compiled a 7-0 record with 2.87 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 47.0 innings pitched and 10 appearances, including eight starts. The Mentor, Ohio product won each of his first seven starts this season and ranks eighth nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (4.83) and eighth in WHIP (0.80).
A native of Darlington, Pennsylvania, McKay has accumulated a 7-1 record with a 2.15 ERA and 73 strikeouts (16th nationally) in nine starts and 58.2 innings pitched this season. He has finished with eight or more strikeouts in seven of his nine starts this season and 14 times in his collegiate career and has a 16-4 collegiate record on the mound. Â
Louisville is among five schools with three representatives on the watch list joining Florida, South Carolina, TCU and Vanderbilt. The Southeastern Conference features 16 representatives, followed by the Atlantic Coast Conference with 11.Brendan McKay
Up next, No. 3 Louisville returns to ACC action with a weekend visit to Boston College starting Friday at 2:30 p.m., ET. The Cardinals and Eagles are also scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 p.m., and Sunday at noon.
