Cardinals continue spring at Evansville on April 2 at 1 p.m., ET
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team and Indy Eleven played to a scoreless draw in Friday night's spring friendly at Cardinal Park. On a chilly evening in Louisville, a crowd of more than 500 watched as Louisville and Indy Eleven battled to a stalemate.
"It was great to get the shutout as a big part of our focus this spring has been defending as a unit," said Cardinals head coach Ken Lolla. "I thought we limited their opportunities and gave ourselves a chance to win the game."
The best chance in the first half came in the 40th minute as senior defender Jerry Ramirez slotted freshman Grant Holcomb into the box on a breakaway but was denied by Indy eleven goalkeeper, Keith Cardona in the second of five spring matches for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals narrowly missed on a chance in the 82nd minute when midfielder Tim Kubel dribbled down the right flank, cut inside and hit a shot that didn't have the pace to beat Cardona.
The match featured the return of three Louisville men's soccer alumni as Daniel Keller, Dylan Mares and Aaron Horton all suited up for Indy.
"Our performance tonight is definitely something to build on for the rest of the spring," said Lolla.
The Cardinals will continue their spring exhibition schedule with road match against the University of Evansville on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
