Alison Price scores the game-winner for the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, KY. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team defeated Miami 1-0 on Thursday night in Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals improve to 4-4-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in ACC play.
The Louisville offense got started early when freshman Jill Vetere took a through ball from Rachel Avant but Miami's Phallon Tullis-Joyce dove on the ball right off her foot for the save. Miami then had two chances but junior Taylor Bucklin made saves on both shots in the early part of the half.Â
The Cardinals were able to strike first when senior Casey Whitfield sent a cross to the top of the box to sophomore Alison Price. Price sent a bullet to the upper 90 above the diving Miami keeper for the goal and a 1-0 Louisville lead in the 25th minute.Â
Price had another chance later in the half but the Miami defense blocked the shot. The Hurricanes had another opportunity in the 36th minute but Bucklin made the save, giving the Cards a 1-0 lead at the break.
Miami held a 7-4 shot advantage in the first half and a 5-2 corner kick advantage. Bucklin finished the half with four saves while Miami finished with one save.Â
The Louisville offense got started early in the second period.  Sophomore Isabella Habuda had a shot on goal but the keeper made a diving save. Then in the 60th minute, Kaela Dickerman's header went high.Â
The Cardinal defense was tested by the Hurricane offense as the minutes ticked away in the second half. Miami had six of the 11 second half shots in the final 15 minutes. Miami had their best opportunity in the 74th minute but Bucklin made the diving save, punching the ball back into the field of play. Miami quickly gathered the ball while Bucklin was on the ground and shot the ball towards the net. Inger Katrine Bjerke made the team save sending the ball to midfield.Â
Miami had a final chance in the 88th minute but Bucklin made the save, preserving her first shutout of the season.
 Â
Miami finished the game with an 18-7 shot advantage and an 11-4 corner kick advantage. Bucklin finished with season-high eight saves. Miami's Tullis-Joyce finished with three saves.
