
Women's Soccer Hosts Miami for ACC Home Opener on Thursday Night

Cardinals return home after a three game road stint
LOUISVILLE, KY. -  The University of Louisville women's soccer team kicks off a three-game home stand with a conference matchup against the Miami Hurricanes on Thursday night at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.    Â

Louisville enters the matchup with an overall record of 3-4-1 after falling 2-0 on the road to Boston College in both team's conference opener last week. Goalkeeper Taylor Bucklin recorded seven saves.

For the season, eight Cardinals have scored this season with Casey Whitfield leading the way with two goals. Senior Rachel Avant adds a goal and two assists for four points. Junior goalies Taylor Bucklin (15 saves) and Paige Brown (14 saves) have both seen time in goal this season with the two combining for a 1.22 goals against average.

Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 16th season with the Cardinals. She has guided Louisville to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.

Miami enters Thursday's ACC matchup with an overall record of 3-5 (0-1-0) and is coming off a 3-0 loss to Wake Forest in the conference opener.       Â

The Hurricanes are led by senior forward Amy Schmidt, who has scored four goals and four assists for a team-high 12 points. Junior forward Gracie Lachowecki adds three goals while redshirt senior Erin McGovern and sophomore Grace Rapp add two goals apiece. Freshman midfielder Ainsly Wolfinbarger has a team-high four assists for the Canes. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce leads the Hurricanes in goal with 16 saves and has a 1.67 goals against average.

Mary-Frances Monroe is in her 3rd season as the head women's soccer coach at Miami after coaching Albany for seven seasons.

 The Cardinals and Hurricanes will meet for the second time in series history after the two teams ended with a 1-1 tie in double overtime last season in Coral Gables, Fla.

GO FOR THE GOAL
The team will be wearing gold shoelaces to benefit theGo4thegoal organization. The mission of the organization is to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research and granting personal wishes. Through the LaceUp4PedaticCancer campaign, student-athletes donate $5 per set of yellow laces.
