
Women's Soccer Travels to Boston College to Begin ACC Play

Cards open up ACC play at Boston College on Sunday
LOUISVILLE, KY. - Â The University of Louisville women's soccer team kicks off their second season in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a road matchup against Boston College on Sunday afternoon.

Louisville enters the matchup with an overall record of 3-3-1, coming off a weekend road trip that saw the Cardinals earn a 1-0 win over UAB before a tough 2-1 loss to Mississippi on Sunday. Senior Aubrey Baker scored her first goal of the season off a pass from senior Hannah Konermann while junior Paige Brown recorded her second shutout in the 1-0 win over UAB. Redshirt senior Casey Whitfield scored her second goal of the season off a corner kick but the Rebels scored in the 83rd minute to take a 2-1 victory.

For the season, eight Cardinals have scored this season with Casey Whitfield leading the way with two goals. Senior Rachel Avant adds a goal and two assists for four points. Junior goalie Paige Brown has recorded 14 saves and has two shutouts while holding a 0.96 goals against average.

Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 16th season with the Cardinals. She has guided Louisville to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.

SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
Boston College enters Sunday's ACC matchup with an overall record of 6-3 and is coming off a 3-2 double overtime loss at home to Providence.

The Eagles are led by redshirt junior McKenzie Meehan who leads the NCAA with nine goals on the season. Junior forward Hayley Dowd provides BC with another scorer as she has scored five goals thus far. Freshman midfielder Gaby Carreiro has contributed four assists with redshirt sophomore Lauren Berman adding three assists of her own. Redshirt senior Alex Johnson and redshirt freshman Alexis Bryant have both seen time in goal for the Eagles. Johnson has recorded 27 saves and holds a 0.87 goals against average while Bryant has 18 saves and a 1.73 goals against average.      Â

Alison Foley is in her 19th season as the head women's soccer coach at BC. Foley currently owns a 241-124-34 record with the Eagles and has led the team to 11 straight postseason berths.

THE SERIES
 The Cardinals and Eagles will meet for the second time in series history with the Eagles taking a 1-0 win last season at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Eagles scored early with a goal in the fifth minute of the game. Louisville had a few chances to even the score but could not get the equalizer.
