Cardinals fall on the road to Boston College in the ACC opener
BOSTON, MASS. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team fell 2-0 at Boston College on Sunday afternoon in the ACC opener. The Cardinals fall to 3-4-1 on the year and 0-1-0 in ACC play while Boston College improves to 7-3-0 on the year and 1-0-0 in ACC play.
Victoria Martinis had the first shot on goal for the Cardinals in the third minute but the ball was saved. The Eagles got on the board first, scoring in the 12th minute from 10 yards out off a through ball into the far corner from McKenzie Meehan.
The Cardinal offense was looking for the equalizer when Martinis had another shot on goal that was saved in the 24th minute. Bucklin made two saves in three minutes with both shots coming from Meehan, to keep Louisville within striking distance. Â Inger Katrine Bjerke had a shot blocked by the Eagles' defense in the 37th minute.Â

Bucklin as tested again in the 37th minute but made the save. Boston College went up 2-0 with four seconds left to play in the half on a goal by Lauren Berman.

The Eagles finished the first half with a 9-5 shot advantage while the Cardinals held a 3-2 corner kick advantage. Louisville keeper Bucklin finished with seven saves while Boston College's Alexis Bryant finished with two saves in the half.
With a two goal deficit, the Cardinals offense pressed early and a shot by Gabrielle Vincent in the 47th minute was saved by Bryant. Martinis had another shot in the 64th minute but Bryant made another save.Â
The Cardinal defense held Boston College from scoring another goal in the second half. Bucklin had four saves in the second period. Despite pressing forward, the Louisville offense was unable to connect for a goal. It was just the second time this season the Cardinals had been shutout.Â
Boston College finished the game with a 19-9 shot advantage and a 9-4 shots on goal advantage. Louisville held a slight 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. Bucklin finished with seven saves while Bryant finished with four.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 24 as they host Miami in Lynn Stadium at 7:00 p.m. for the ACC home opener.
