Volleyball Holds Red/Black Scrimmage
August 22, 2015 | Women's Volleyball
The University of Louisville women's volleyball team held their Red and Black Scrimmage on Saturday evening with the Black team winning the scrimmage 3-0.
Junior outside hitter Maya McClendon led all players with nine kills in the scrimmage. Sophomore defensive specialist, Gabbie Wiley, added eight digs and Molly Sauer adding seven digs and two aces.
"I am happy with the outcome and overall play defensively from an effort standpoint. Our technical standpoint needs a little work but we are so much further along than we were last year. I was happy with the focus of the defense and the effort was phenomenal," said UofL head coach Anne George. Katie George showed the reason she is the captain. Our hitting errors I attribute to jitters. The passing was great and that put all our setters in a position to have all options.
The scrimmage concluded weeks of an extensive and grueling training camp in preparation for the upcoming season. The Cardinals kick off their season in Champaign, Ill., next week for three games in the Illinois Tournament. The Cardinals will face Illinois on Friday, Aug. 28 before facing Creighton (1:30 ET) and Miami of Ohio (5:30 ET) on Saturday to round out the tournament."
Louisville returns nine letterwinners, including Preseason All-ACC selection senior Katie George and 2014 All-ACC First Team selection Janelle Jenkins at middle blocker. The Cards also welcome seven newcomers, including Preseason All-ACC selection and transfer outside hitter, Erin Fairs, and USA Junior National Volleyball Team member, Molly Sauer.
