Day 7
Hi Cardinal Fans! Erin Fairs here! I am a transfer from USF and it is my turn on the VBlog. :)
Today was a great day of volleyball and team bonding. Yes, we passed a milestone today as we got to say, we are halfway through preseason and one week closer to our first game of the 2015-2016 volleyball season! First, we started the day off with a team breakfast at 7a.m. to get us ready for practice at 8a.m. Once we all were dressed and ready, we all entered the court to do our warm up routine.
Something that has become natural since preseason started and I'm sure that the coaches will continue this throughout the season, are the light switches that we all turn on when we are about to start practice. The light switches symbolize that you are ready to go and you personally are going to give your all, physically and mentally in that practice. I think this strategy has proved to work for all of us because it's basically like a promise to your teammates and coaches and no one wants to let anyone down.
As we all get further into 2 a days, day 7 was a day that we mentally and physically had to push through extremely hard to get the results we all wanted. Yes, at this point we have passed all the soreness of preseason but our bodies are still tired. I personally have NEVER met so many hard working teammates in my life and it just naturally raises the intensity and culture in the gym. I am so proud of all my teammates for getting through all the tough drills that give gut checks and moving forward and making that same drill look drastically easier the next time around. This season WILL be something special and we are all on board to make it happen.
With all the hard work that was done at practice, our coaches decided on giving us the second session off! Yes, we were all excited and relieved for our bodies to get some rest but we all are going to come tomorrow giving 110%.
Our coaches also decided to have us all meet for dinner to get a little team bonding in. We all met up at this restaurant and was told to not sit next to our roommate to get to learn more about others. We were given many questions by our coaching staff to go around and learn new things about our teammates that was funny and interesting. In conclusion, day 7 was a great one and I can't wait to get into another day in the gym with these girls and coaching staff!
