Maggie DeJong Takes Over the Volleyblog
August 16, 2015 | Women's Volleyball
Hey Cards fans!
My name is Maggie DeJong and I am a sophomore middle blocker from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This is my second year as a Cardinal and I could not be more excited for this upcoming season!
Today, we completed day 6 of our preseason. We started the morning off with a great breakfast, thanks to our sports performance coaches, Zach and Molly. This helped us get going for our first session of the day. We had a great practice that focused on defense and serving. The team was challenged to a drill called "Blue Line Serving," where every person had to serve twice at a certain speed to a certain location. We had to get 28 points, and if we failed to reach our goal, we would have to run. The moment came down to the team having only 23 points with one server left. As a server, you can get a max of 5 points, so the pressure was on. Lyndsay Palmer stepped up to the challenge and saved our team from the extra exhaustion of running! The team went crazy and it was the best way to end practice.
In between our two practices, we got to cool down with some nice relaxing yoga. This was well needed for our bodies because we have been going super hard in the gym. In my opinion, we have had a very successful preseason so far and the team has already made so many improvements! You all will need to come see our hard work pay off this season.
Thank you for reading and we will see you later Cards fans!
