Two Women's Golfers Advance to U.S. Women's Amateur Match Play
August 12, 2015 | Women's Golf
Molly Skapik and Laura Restrepo started match play at the event in Portland on Wednesday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's golf program is enjoying a rather busy - and successful - summer, and that stretch of activity continued this week.
The Cardinals' Molly Skapik and Laura Restrepo both advanced from stroke play at the prestigious 2015 U.S. Women's Amateur to begin match play competition at the Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore. It's a significant achievement given that the last time a Louisville student-athlete reached play at the event was in 2010, when Sara-Maude Juneau played in the Round of 16.
The duo makes up a field that started at 156 and has reduced to the current Round of 64.
The match-play rounds will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1, with coverage Wednesday to Sunday from 4-7 p.m. ET. Additionally, bonus coverage will be live streamed on USGA.org on Thursday and Sunday from 12-2 p.m. ET.
Skapik begins play at 1:40 p.m., while Restrepo starts competition at 4 p.m. Head coach Courtney Trimble accompanied the two Cardinals on their trip west, and she is caddying for Restrepo.
In stroke play, both Skapik and Restrepo each shot a 3-over-par 147 to tie for 41st. Restrepo battled in the second of two rounds, firing an even-par 72.
Earlier this summer, Restrepo tied for third at the 2015 Kentucky Women's Open, while Skapik logged an eighth-place finish. Skapik also reached the semifinal round of match play at the 115th WWGA National Amateur Championship in late June.
