LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Highlighted by 11 regular season home matches at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium and 10 of 17 contests overall against 2014 NCAA Championship qualifiers, the University of Louisville men's soccer program released its 2015 schedule on Thursday afternoon.
Following their eighth straight NCAA Championship appearance last season, the Cardinals will face another challenging slate as they embark on their second season in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The home schedule includes a rematch of last year's NCAA second round match against Saint Louis as well as visits from NCAA qualifiers Stanford, Kentucky and Wake Forest and former conference rival Connecticut. Each of the Cardinals' six road games will be against NCAA tournament teams, highlighted by a visit to reigning NCAA champion Virginia.
"The strength of the 2015 schedule sets us up for success and prepares us well for post season play. In addition to the competition in the ACC, 10 of the 17 teams were in last year's NCAA tournament," said Louisville head coach Ken Lolla. "Our home schedule is great for our fans as it allows us to host some exciting and provocative opponents at Lynn Stadium. The support in the first year at Lynn was outstanding as we ranked second nationally in attendance. Our hope is that this year, we take the top spot and that Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium sets the standard for college soccer attendance across the nation."
Louisville's 17-match regular season schedule begins on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m., ET at Lynn Stadium against William & Mary. The Cardinals will follow the opener with a Monday night (7:30 p.m.) home showdown against 2014 NCAA participant Stanford. The four-game season-opening home slate will continue against Stony Brook on Sept. 4 before rival Kentucky visits Lynn Stadium on Sept. 8.
The Cardinals, who finished at 11-8-3 last season and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championship, will open their eight-match ACC gauntlet on Sept. 11 with a road trip to Syracuse. That will be followed by another four-game homestand with visits from Saint Louis (Sept. 15), Virginia Tech (Sept. 18), Memphis (Sept. 22) and NC State (Sept. 25). Louisville will conclude the month of September with a match at Ohio State (Sept. 29).
The month of October will begin with back-to-back ACC road matches at Virginia (Oct. 2) and Clemson (Oct. 9). The Cardinals will return home to host UConn on Oct. 13 and Boston College on Oct. 16 before traveling to Indiana (Oct. 20) and North Carolina (Oct. 23) for their final regular season road matches. Louisville will close the regular season at home on Oct. 30 with a visit from Wake Forest.
The 2015 ACC Championship is slated to begin on Nov. 4 with first round action and will continue on Nov. 8 (quarterfinals), Nov. 11 (semifinals) and Nov. 15 (final). In a change from previous years, every match in each of the four rounds of the ACC Championship will be contested on campus and hosted by the higher seeded teams.
Louisville's three-match preseason schedule will begin on Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m., ET at Lynn Stadium against Lipscomb. The Cardinals will also host UAB in a preseason match on Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m., before closing the exhibition slate on Aug. 22 at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.
