
Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Vanderbilt on Saturday

Cardinals look to build off success of 2015 season

The Louisville men's and women's track and field teams kick off their 2015-16 season when they compete at the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener this weekend inside the Vanderbilt Indoor Multi-purpose Facility. Field events are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the high jump and women's weight throw. Running events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the women's 60 meter hurdles.
This weekend, the Cardinals will compete against Austin Peay, Belmont, Lipscomb, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Murray State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Trevecca Nazarene, Western Kentucky, and Vanderbilt.
All-Americans Returning
In head coach Dale Cowper's third year at the helm of the Louisville track and field teams, the Cardinals begin their second season in the ACC. Louisville returns six All-Americans from last year, including ACC Champions Ben Williams (triple jump, indoor and outdoor), Edwin Kibichiy (3,000m steeplechase, outdoor), Ernest Kibet (10,000m, outdoor), Emmonnie Henderson (shot put and discus, outdoor), Dolly Nyemah (weight throw, indoor) and Chanel Krause (pole vault, outdoor).

Record Breaking Season
Louisville is coming off a record season as the program won five ACC Outdoor event titles and broke 20 school records in their inaugural season in the ACC. The men's cross country team is coming off a program best seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships this fall with athletes continuing their season competing in distance events for the track teams.
