Women's Tennis Set to Host Eastern Kentucky

The Louisville women's tennis team is gearing up to face Eastern Kentucky at home on Friday, Feb. 28 at 11 am.
They are coming off a 6-1 win over conference foe, Rutgers, last Friday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Olivia Boesing, Julia Fellerhoff, Rebecca Shine, and Manuela Velasquez all posted victories in both singles and doubles play.
Manuela Velasquez and Rebecca Shine struck first at No. 1 with a 8-3 win. The No. 2 pair of Julia Fellerhoff and Olivia Boesing clinched the point with a 8-3 win over Lindsay Balsamo and Mariam Zein.
Cardinal freshman Elle Stokes scored the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Stefanie Balasa. Olivia Boesing scored next at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6. Rebecca Shine clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4. Julia Fellerhoff won at No. 1 with a score of 6-3, 7-5 over Vanessa Petrini. Manuela Velasquez wrapped up scoring with a 7-6, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Eastern Kentucky is 3-6 overall and have lost five straight matches to tough competition. In their last outing, the Colonels fell to Miami (Ohio) by a final score of 2-5. EKU was able to win two doubles matches to gain the doubles point, however, the Colonels only managed to win one singles match. Eastern's Milena Poffo defeated Miami's Christine Guerrazzi at the No. 4 spot, 7-2, 6-2 to give the Colonels their second point.
The Cardinals will embark on a long road trip that will begin on March 7 against North Texas in Denton, Texas. Their next home match will be on March 29 versus Southern Illinois.
