
Women's Tennis Set to Face DePaul

The University of Louisville women's tennis team will head up to Chicago, Ill. to take on former conference foe, DePaul (1-1) Saturday at 3 p.m. EST.
The Cardinals are coming off a big 4-0 win versus Missouri in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Gainesville, Fla. Louisville earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 play.
At No. 1, Louisville's Manuela Velasquez and Becca Shine defeated senior Cierra Gaytan-Leach and freshman Cassidy Spearman, 6-4. U of L senior Julia Fellerhoff and Olivia Boesing beat UM's Rachel Stuhlmann and Madison Rhyner 6-2 loss at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Louisville posted wins at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles to take the victory. Shine beat Gaytan-Leach at No. 1 play, 6-0, 6-3. Fellerhoff defeated Mizzou's No. 2 Kelli Hine, 6-4, 6-1 and Elle Stokes beat Rhyner, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles.
DePaul is returning from the ITA Indoor Qualifier at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas last weekend. The Blue Demons took care of business against San Jose State, 4-1, before losing to the host Aggies, 1-4. Sophomore Ana Vladutu was DePaul's lone winner, defeating A&M's Anna Mamalat 6-4, 6-0 in singles play.
Rebeca Mitrea pushed Jana McCord to three sets in the No. 6 match but ultimately fell, 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (8). Patricia Fargas fell to Cristina Stancu in the No. 1 match, 6-2, 6-3, and Jasmin Kling dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Saska Gavrilovska. Kelsey Lawson's No. 4 match and Zaina Sufi's No. 5 match were left unfinished. The Blue Demons dropped all three doubles matches to the Aggies.
The Cardinals will return home for a three-match homestand beginning Feb. 6 vs. Morehead State at 3 pm in Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. They'll take on Evansville Feb. 8 at noon, then conference rival Cincinnati at 2 pm the next day.
