LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Head coach Ken Lolla and several members of the 10th-ranked Louisville men's soccer team met with reporters during the Cardinals' annual media day activities on Wednesday afternoon at Cardinal Park.
Lolla, entering his eighth season leading the Louisville program, was joined by senior defender/midfielder Ade Akinsanya, senior forward Zack Foxhoven, junior defender Daniel Keller, sophomore midfielder/forward Marlon Hairston and sophomore defender Jerry Ramirez in previewing the 2013 season. On Monday, Louisville was selected to finish second in the inaugural season of the American Athletic Conference behind preseason favorite UConn while Foxhoven, Hairston and Keller were selected to the preseason all-conference team.
Last season, the Cardinals advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship marking the third straight season they had finished among the nation's final eight squads. Louisville, which finished 2012 ranked No. 7 overall with a 14-6-1 record, closed the conference season as the BIG EAST Red Division champions after finishing with a 7-1-0 record in league play.
No. 10 Louisville will conclude its three-game preseason schedule on Saturday at 7 p.m., ET at Cardinal Park against No. 19 Northwestern and admission is free. The game is a rematch of the Cardinals' 2-1 win over the Wildcats in the third round of last year's NCAA Championship. UofL will open the regular season at No. 25 Virginia on Friday, Aug. 30 at 8 p.m., ET in Charlottesville.
