
Burdi, Thompson Named Perfect Game All-Americans

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For the second straight day, Louisville righthanded pitchers Nick Burdi and Jeff Thompson were selected as All-Americans after Perfect Game honored the Cardinal hurlers on Thursday.
A First Team All-America selection by Perfect Game, Burdi (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South HS) leads UofL with 16 saves (second highest single season total in school history) to go with a 0.78 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 28 relief appearances and 34.2 innings pitched in 2013. Opposing batters are hitting just .197 against the hard-throwing Burdi, a Second Team NCBWA All-American selection on Wednesday who has a 3-3 record overall on the mound.
The 2013 BIG EAST Conference Pitcher of the Year and a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist, Thompson (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central HS) has an 11-1 record on the mound with a 2.00 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 103.1 innings pitched . Seven of the 16 starts for the NCBWA Second Team All-American have been scoreless outings and opposing batters are hitting just .169 against the Louisville Slugger Second Team All-American. For his career, Thompson is 22-6 on the mound with a 2.85 ERA and 225 strikeouts in 221.1 innings pitched.
Up next, the fourth-ranked Cardinals travel to Omaha, Neb., for the 2013 College World Series. Louisville will open against Indiana on Saturday at 7 p.m., CT at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in a nationally televised matchup on ESPN.
