Cardinals' McDonnell Inducted into The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville baseball head coach Dan McDonnell was honored on Friday night as a member of The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2013 during a ceremony in Charleston, S.C.
McDonnell, who is in his eighth season guiding the Cardinals on the diamond, was an All-Southern Conference selection at second base in 1991, led the Bulldogs in walks and stolen bases three times and twice led the team in runs scored while finishing his career as the program's all-time leader in stolen bases (99) and walks (185). As a member of the memorable 1990 World Series team, he collected a hit in each of the Bulldogs' three games in Omaha.

McDonnell was also a member of The Citadel squads that captured the 1990 and 1991 Southern Conference regular season titles, the 1990 league tournament crown and the 1990 Atlantic Regional, which included a pair of wins over host Miami.
After earning his degree in mathematics from The Citadel in 1992, McDonnell served as an assistant coach to legendary Bulldogs' head coach Fred Jordan for eight seasons. From there, he spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Ole Miss before earning his first head coaching opportunity with the Cardinals prior to the 2007 season. At Louisville, McDonnell has led the Cardinals to two College World Series appearances and more than 300 wins in seven seasons.
McDonnell joined five others in The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2013 on Friday - baseball player Chip Cannon, football players Lance Hansen and Jim McMillan and honorary members Joe Turbeville and Lt. Col. Richard Moore. More information on the class can be found here.
