Louisville, Ky. - After recovering from the Army game, it was time to turn our attention to Wake Forest on Tuesday. This was a big game since Wake Forest plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), which is arguably the toughest conference in the country along with the BIG EAST. With this in mind, we knew it was going to be a battle.
In the first half we came out flying. We got on the board first when Dylan Mares slipped me in behind and thanks to a little deflection off the defender, the ball found the back of the net. About five minutes later, Andrew Farrell curled a ball from the top of the 18 over the keeper and we took a 2-0 lead. He decided to go with a somersault as his celebration. This celebration could use some work, but at least he did one. I on the other hand never know what to do and usually just stand there.
In the second half, Wake Forest came out flying. Our defense was holding strong, but eventually they scored one, and then another to tie it up. After 90 minutes we were deadlocked at two. Overtime was an even battle until the 105th minute. Marlon Hairston got in behind Wake's defense and slipped a ball across the box to an on rushing Ryan Smith, where he tucked the ball away for the win. Naturally, Ryan's shirt came off in celebration.
We put this game behind and it was time to prepare for Kentucky, the Battle of the Bluegrass game. The atmosphere was electric for this game as expected with such a heated rivalry. A big thank you goes out to all of the fans that came out. I can speak for all the players on the field that you guys made it a fun, exciting night.
Unfortunately, we were on the losing end. They scored a goal off a free kick, and we simply could not find the back of the net. We had plenty of chances to do so but never converted.
This week we have another two games at home and they are big ones. On Tuesday night we play Ohio State at 7:00 p.m. Then on Saturday we have our first BIG EAST match against Notre Dame.
Now its time to talk about what the discussion of the week was inside of our locker room. It involved none other than the two holding midfielders, Daniel Keller and Paolo DelPiccolo. The question was who is a legend between the two? Daniel's argument was that Paolo has two capital letters in his last name, thus meaning two last names. And in Daniel's opinion two last names are greater than one last name, meaning Paolo has to be the legend.
Paolo's argument was a statement that a girl said to Daniel. It was that his looks are a mix between former Cardinal greats Colin Rolfe and Charlie Campbell, meaning he has to be the legend. I will let you guys decide who the legend is, as our team can't come up with a unanimous decision.
