Going With the Flow with Greg Cochrane

Louisville, Ky. - Last week started off with a trip at St. Louis. It is not a bad bus ride, about four and a half hours in total but problem comes in when you forget your pillow. This makes the bus ride much more uncomfortable than it should be. Since I am a senior, I should have known better than to make a freshman mistake.
As we were pulling into St. Louis, our bus driver missed a turn into our hotel. The result of the mistake? Driving by the St. Louis Cardinals' baseball stadium as the game ended. We could see the hotel in sight, but had to sit and wait for about 30 minutes until 50k fans crossed the street before we could travel about 50 meters.
The game kicked off Tuesday night, and unfortunately, we lost 1-0. The field was not great, but that is not an excuse for the loss. On the night, we simply just could not find the back of the net and they did. We learn from our mistakes and move on.
We had a few days to prepare for our next game against Army. This game was the annual Kick for Nick. This was in honor of a fallen soldier Nick who had a vision of gathering soccer balls and giving them to kids around his station abroad. Unfortunately he passed in the line of duty, but his vision did not. Those who donated soccer balls got you into the game for free.
The first half was a tough fought battle and we went into the locker room in a scoreless tie. The second half started and we continued our pressure. This sustained pressure finally paid off when Alex Obbey slipped the ball to Buck Tufty. Tufty turned his defender inside and out before putting the ball by the keeper. We extended our lead to 2-0 in the 86th minute when Will Vitalis put yours truly in behind and I tucked the ball away into the corner.
Dylan Mares topped the scoring off not too long after. Daniel Keller played Mares a long ball to the sideline where he collected it and drove to goal. His shot went off the back post and in. Game, set, and match.
Big ups to the backline of Brock Granger, Isaiah Trejo, Andrew Farrell, and Ade Akinsanya, along with goalie Joachim Ball for picking up the first shut out of the year.
The moment of the match had to be when Will was coming into the game, forgetting to take off his warm up vest. He finally realized it was still on when he was on the other side of the field.
Next up for us is Wake Forest on Tuesday and Kentucky on Friday. Come on out and support your Cards for both of this home games. The support has been great thus far and the team can't thank you enough.
Before I signed off, I have to mention our freshman Daniel Brennan. This man had the honest mistake of texting the whole team in a group text when it was supposed to go to a girl. Without going into details of the message, lets just say he could improve on his pick up lines.
We all look forward to seeing all you guys on Tuesday as we take on Wake and on Friday as we take on instate rival Kentucky.
Greg
