Marquette University has been awarded the right to host the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Women's Volleyball Championship, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Thursday afternoon.
"We are pleased to once again host the BIG EAST Championship after a successful turnout last season at the Al McGuire Center," Marquette head coach Bond Shymansky said. "The benefits of hosting the tournament at a first-class facility like the Al were evident to our fellow conference members as they determined a host location. The continued support of local volleyball fans and the Marquette community is paramount to our program's success and it is our hope that we are able to return the favor by defending our home court in November for our first BIG EAST Championship."
The Al McGuire Center will play host on Friday, Nov. 16 through the title match on Sunday, Nov. 18, which will be televised live on ESPNU.
It is the second year in a row, and third time since joining the league, that Marquette will welcome the conference's volleyball tournament to Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles also hosted in 2007 and 2011 at the Al McGuire Center.
Cincinnati defeated Notre Dame in the 2011 championship, while the host Golden Eagles advanced to the semifinals for the second time in as many years.
Ticket information will be released as more details become available.
The event was previously scheduled to be held in Pittsburgh.
