Louisville Head Coach Dan McDonnell
"It was just a hard-fought game--what you would expect at the NCAAs. They jumped on us early, we had to make some adjustments. Obviously, a 3-2 game is a well-pitched game. Even though there were some errors on the scoreboard, there were some great plays. It wasn't our best offensive output, but fortunately, we did enough offensively. And Amlung does what Amlung does--he goes out and pitches his best, he just competes. He gives us a chance to get back in the game and Amlung and Tingle were phenomenal today."
Louisville Pitcher Justin Amlung
"I think through three innings I had about 69 pitches. I knew they were going to take a lot of walks and there were a lot of strikeouts on the stat sheets. I knew how important it was to get the first strike and I felt like I did that. It was a good battle."
Louisville Catcher Kyle Gibson
"We were just out there to have fun. We've been preparing for this all season, so we want to make sure we go out and have fun."
New Mexico State Head Coach Rocky Ward
"It was a well-played game from a pitching standpoint. We had a good out and Ryan had an outstanding performance out of the bullpen, that's kind of what you have to do in a tournament like this. If you lose a game, you've got four to play and they did a good job. That gave us a chance to save pitching and at the same time, gave us a chance to win the game late. We were obviously very in our offensive play, but this is baseball and you have to tip your hat to the opponent's pitching staff, as much as we hate to do that."
"Their ball landed down the left field line and ours did not. That's really what it comes down to. Both teams had a lot of balls hit hard at people and we had the benefit of it. Paker Hipp had I don't know how many assists and put-outs he had, but he got a lot of action today and started with the second play of the game with a diving play. It's just a baseball game. I thought my guys prepared well, I thought they game to the yard ready to play. There weren't nerves; we didn't have any of the dumb baseball stuff that we worry about, kids that haven't been in an experienced situation like this. We got beat by baseball today. We will move forwards and look to play tomorrow and on into the tournament."
New Mexico State Outfielder Bryan Karraker
"I don't think so much that he was getting us to swing at pitches early in the count, he was keeping the ball low. He mixed it up really nice, but he didn't really make mistakes. If he made a mistake, it was either way in or way out. He's just a good college pitcher and he got the best of us today."
New Mexico State Pitcher Ryan Beck
"I just didn't execute to get them out. I got ahead of them and then they just hit my mistakes and we didn't hit his mistakes. That was the difference in the ballgame--that's it."
