Louisville Head Coach Dan McDonnell
(On the outing by Justin Amlung) "Justin Amlung was very good and he really set the tone. We've been saying that we need a bell cow type of pitcher and everybody knows that Justin is supposed to be that guy this year. For him to give us seven innings and only two runs against a free-swinging group like that is what we needed. Sometimes, an aggressive free-swinging club like that can hurt a pitcher who's a strike thrower. Justin lives in the zone, so he had to make good pitches and pitch himself out of a couple of jams. Overall, I was really pleased with his start."
(On the relief appearance by Derek Self) "Derek comes in at the end and was very good with runners on base again for us. He fields his position really well and for him to get the save was another good showing."
(On the offense) "We're not great yet, but we're pretty good. We're manufacturing some runs. We created a nice two-out rally today and we've talked a lot to our guys about how much it can hurt your opponent when you can score runs with two outs. We did some good things today. This is our first three-game stretch against the same team this year, so I challenged our guys that this is like a conference weekend. We need to come out tomorrow, wipe the slate clean and get ready to play good baseball."
Louisville Junior RHP Justin Amlung
"This week, I was a lot better (than last week), especially with throwing inside. My change-up was working well and I was able to throw the slider for a strike more this week. Overall, I felt physically stronger. I was a little frustrated that I gave up those two runs in the fifth, but I bounced back from that in the sixth and seventh and it's always good to get the win."
