
No. 24 Softball Tops Florida International 4-2

MIAMI - - The 24th ranked University of Louisville softball team defeated host Florida International 4-2 to improve to 4-0 on the season Saturday in the FIU Combat Classic.
The Cards jumped on the scoreboard early. Junior Jennifer Esteban led off the game with a single. One out later, Jordan Trimble connected on an RBI single for the first run of the game.
The scoring continued with a pair of runs in the second. Freshman Whitney Arion and sophomore Hannah Kiyohara delivered back-to-back doubles to increase the lead to 2-0. Senior Kristin Austin and Esteban each singled to load the bases for Trimble's RBI single to make it a 3-0 game.
The Golden Panthers got on the scoreboard in the second when Kayla Burri registered a two-out single and took second on an error. Walks to Rachel Slowik and Erika Arcuri loaded the bases and a wild pitch sent Burri home.
Back-to-back doubles in the third by Ashley McClain and Brie Rojas pulled FIU within a run.
The Cardinals added an insurance run in the sixth when Arion drew a two-out walk. Kiyohara followed with an infield single and an error place runners on the corners. Austin's RBI single made the score 4-2.
Sophomore Caralisa Connell (1-0) got the win, allowing two earned runs on two hits and striking out five in 5.1 innings of relief. Kiyohara was 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Austin was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Esteban and Trimble each went 2 for 4.
Ashley McClain (0-1) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in 1.1 innings of work.
