Men's Soccer Set to Host Rival Indiana

The University of Louisville men's soccer team is set to host No. 14 ranked Indiana University on Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m., ET in Cardinal Park. The Cardinals will enter the non-conference match with an overall record of 7-4-0. The Cards also have a 6-1 record at home this season. The No. 14 Hoosiers will come to Louisville with a record on the year of 9-2-1 and a perfect 4-0 record on the road.
The Louisville men's soccer team is riding high after defeating Syracuse 2-1 in a come from behind win last Saturday in front of a record crowd at SU Stadium. In the 70th minute Zach Foxhoven drove the ball through the Syracuse defense and chipped it in from nine yards out to give the Cards a 2-1 lead. The Cards are led by Greg Cochrane with five goals and two assists.
Indiana has won three straight matches and has an extended run of winning six of their last seven. The Hoosiers have recorded victories this season against Saint Louis (No. 29 in voting), Cincinnati, Clemson, Oregon State, SIUE, Ohio State, Penn State, and Kentucky. The lone tie for Indiana came against San Diego State. The two losses that the Hoosiers have suffered were dealt to them by strong opponents in No. 7 Akron and No. 10 Notre Dame.
"This is a great opportunity for us to continue to grow and develop," said head coach Ken Lolla. "IU is a very good team that will present challenges that will stretch us as a team. The team has continued to make strides and is playing our best soccer of the season. It is a great time to be hosting them."
Indiana leads the overall series 15-3-0 and leads the series here in Louisville 7-2-0. However, Louisville has won the last two home meetings against the Hoosiers and has taken three of the last five meetings. Louisville head coach, Ken Lolla, owns a 3-3-0 record against IU since taking over the program. Last year, Louisville came back from behind to defeat Indiana 3-2 in overtime for their first win in Bloomington, Ind.
Forward Eriq Zavaleta leads IU with 11 goals and two assists for 24 points. Starting midfielder A.J. Corrado has added one goal and six assists for eight points this season. Dylan Mares should be familiar with the play of Corrado and starting midfielder Harrison Petts as they all were part of the same class that graduated from Zionsville Community High School in Indiana. Richard Ballard, a freshman midfielder/forward has seen limited action for Indiana, yet, is returning home to Louisville where he attended duPont Manual High School.
"We also welcome the regional rivalry as it is wonderful for the interest of soccer in our community," stated head coach Ken Lolla.
The next match for the Cardinals will take place on Oct. 13 when they host St. John's (8-1-4) at 7:00 p.m., ET in Cardinal Park.
