
Swimming Falls to Tennessee

The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team was edged by Tennessee in the first away meet of the season. The UT men won 168.5-131.5 with the Volunteer women winning 190-107.
"I am proud of the way our women competed tonight," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "We made some real progress in many areas, and I certainly feel like we are moving in the right direction. On the men's side, we got touched out in too many races to beat a team on the road. We had some great highlights and I am encouraged by the team's potential. As a program, we have big goals this season, and overall I like where we are in our training cycle."
U of L scored with wins from Bryan Draganosky (1650-free, 500-free), Joao De Lucca (200-free, 100-free), Eszter Povazsay (100-back), Michael Haefner (100-breast). The Cardinal men won the 400-free relay by almost two seconds.
In the 200-medley relay, U of L touched second. Krissie Brandenburg (26.16), Gisselle Kohoyda (30.67), Brittany Robinson (25.43) and Hanna Cowley (23.16) combined for a 1:45.42. In the men's race, U of L was outtouched by just two tenths of a second, when Caryle Blondell (23.03), Kameron Chastain (24.94), Pedro Coutinho (22.35), Samuel Hoekstra (20.28)put up a 1:45.52. UT posted a a 1:39.82 for the win.
Freshman Bryan Draganosky posted the first win for the Cardinals when he put up a 15.32.73, almost 20 seconds ahead of the next finisher in the grueling 1650-free. U of L's top women's finisher was Abby Chin's third place with a 17:04.37.
Joao De Lucca scored the next first place with a decisive win in the 200-free, posting a 1:48.01. Alex Burtch was second with a 1:39.79 and Albert Lloyd made it a sweep with a third in 1:41.13. For the women, Johanna Cowley put up the fastest time with a fourth place in 1:52.96.
Eszter Povazsay won the 100-back for the Cardinals with a time of 55.85. Krissie Brandenburg was third with a time of 56.56. Caryle Blondell was just outtouched by three-tenths of a second in the men's race with a time of 49.79, just behind Sam Rairden's 49.41.
The Cardinal men had a strong showing in the 100-breast with Michael Haefner touching first with a 55.80 just narrowly beating teammate Kameron Chastain, who went 55.94. Addison Bray cruised in with a 57.62. In the In the women's 100-breaststroke, freshman Lucy Kramer was second with a time of 1:05.59. Gisselle Kohoyda was in hot pursuit for third with a 1:06.24.
In the 200-fly, Tanja Kylliainen was second with a 2:00.61 with Cardinal newcomer Devon Bibault touching third with a 2:03.22. For the men, Juan Lopez was second with a time of 1:50.82 just .22 off the winning pace. Teammate Kevin Bandy was third in 1:51.16.
Freshman Kelsi Worrell was the top Cardinal swimmer in the 50-free with a 23.43, just .21 from the winning time in a hotly contested race. Joao De Lucca was out-touched by .02 to finish second with a 20.57.
In one meter diving, U of L senior Hannah Gadd was edged for the win by just ten points as she posted a 287.33. Lindsey Stephens placed fourth with a score of 266.70. For the men, Nikolas Sachs was fourth with a score of 280.50
In three meter diving, freshman Sean Piner was the top Cardinal finisher with a fourth place showing, posting a 305.85. Hannah Gadd was third in the 3-meter diving with a score of 301.20.
In the 100-free, Joao De Lucca, muscled his way to a win with a 44.51. Caryle Blondell went 44.76 to make It a one-two sweep. For the women's Kelsi Worrell was second with a time of 50.48 just .11 off the winning pace.
Erica Belcher pulled out a win in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:01.06, just .19 ahead of teammate Eszter Povazsay's 2:01.35. For the men, Juan Lopez was second with a 1:49.11.
In the 200-breast, Gisselle Kohoyda was second with a time of 2:19.56 with teammate Lucy Kramer was third with a time of 2:22.98. For the men, Michael Haefner was second with a time of 2:02.85, just a mere .02 off the winning pace. Addison Bray was third with a time of 2:02.93 and Kameron Chastain was fourth, going 2.03.77.
Bryan Draganosky notched his second win of the meet, outpacing the field by two seconds in the 500-free, with a time of 4:33.22. Victoria Mitchell was the top finisher for the women, with a 4:58.77, good for third place.
Kelsi Worrell was second in the 100-fly with a time of 54.75, and Devon Bibault touching third in 55.96. Albert Lloyd was the top finisher in the 100-fly, with a time of 50.07.
In the 400-IM, Tanja Kylliainen was second 4:18.90 and Abby Chin was third in 4:23.19. Freshman Nick Tessone was third with a time of 4:01.63.
The men won the 400-free relay with the foursome of Samuel Hoekstra (45.89), Caryle Blondell (43.42), Alex Burtch (44.66) and Joao De Lucca's anchor of (43.74) for a time of 2:57.71. The women were second in their relay, with Kelsi Worrell (50.45), Eszter Povazsay (50.72), Krissie Brandenburg (51.12) and Johanna Cowley (51.22) for a time of 3:23.51.
