Louisville, Ky. - Hey Cardinal fans! Last week was another very productive week of soccer. First we took on DePaul and beat them 3-0. To be quite honest, it could have been six, but that's how the game goes sometimes. Anyway, three BIG EAST points and we were happy.
On Friday we left for Syracuse. Usually when we get to the airport, we pray that the line to check your bags is short so it won't take that much time. Luckily for us, we went to the front of the line. But that is where the problem started. United got super flustered with the amount of people all at once. After about an hour wait, we finally got our tickets, and then it was a sprint to the gate to get on the flight on time.
It didn't seem like things could get much worse after this, but for Will Vitalis, this was just the beginning. After the ticket debacle, Will had to get a full pat down and search at security. In Cleveland, which is where our layover was, we decided to get some food. Will proceeded to spill Marinara sauce all over his shoes. He then got a second cup of Marinara sauce for his Calzone, which he then spilled all over his lap. Thankfully, that was the last of Will's misery for the day.
Saturday rolled around and it was time to play Syracuse. After going down 1-0 in the 3rd minute, we fought back as a team. About 20 minutes later, Dylan Mares sent a cross into the box where I was able to redirect it in the goal to tie it at one. In the second half, Zack Foxhoven held off his defender well and beat the goalie with a finish for the game winner. It was nice to finally get a road win this year, especially against a BIG EAST opponent as we gained another three points.
Over fall break, our coaches decided to take us to Qdoba for a nice lunch. Paolo DelPiccolo was quick on his feet and gave the cashier his Qdoba card to rack up all the points from each entry. For those of you who don't know, each entry gives you 100 points. When you hit 1000, you get a free meal. Since we went on a Tuesday, it also means double points. In the end, Paolo walked away from the meal with enough points for seven free entries. Well-played sir.
On Wednesday it was the Battle of the Borders game against Indiana. It was a great atmosphere for a Wednesday night game, with over 3500 fans. Indiana also brought a bus of fans with them, but those fans have nothing on the Louisville Louligans! After going down early, we went up 2-1 in the second half courtesy of goals from Ryan Smith and Will Vitalis. Indiana would tie it up later in the half, and that's where there game would finish, 2-2.
On Saturday we take on another BIG EAST opponent, St. Johns at 7:00 p.m. here at Cardinal Park. This game is also on Fox Soccer Channel, so it would be great if you could come out and pack the park!
