
Wright Named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville junior second baseman Ryan Wright was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the week ending May 22 as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Wright (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead HS) earned the honor after hitting .714 (10-for-14) with two home runs, five RBI, six runs scored and a 1.214 slugging percentage as the Cardinals went 3-1 last week. In Louisville's series win over Notre Dame, Wright was 9-for-11 (.818) with a double, two home runs, five RBI, five runs scored, and averages of 1.455 (slugging) and .846 (on-base). He finished the series by reaching base in 10 straight plate appearances, the longest streak for the Cardinals since 2002. Overall, Wright leads the Cardinals in hitting at .343, doubles with 12 and stolen bases with 16 in 18 attempts, is tied for first in home runs with 11 and is second in RBI with 44.
Up next, No. 6 seed Louisville (29-27) will open the BIG EAST Championship against No. 3 seed Pittsburgh on Wednesday at 10 a.m., ET at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla. The Cardinals and Panthers did not play during the 2011 regular season and have never met in the BIG EAST Championship.
